Thanksgiving Away from Home...

Every year for Thanksgiving we switch back and forth between grandparents. This year was the Sill's year, but instead we went away with just our little family to spend some much needed time together. Garrett's mom was so good about us not being with all the family on Thanksgiving, I think she remembers what it was like to be married to the bishop of the ward and for that I'm thankful.

Monday we heard a huge storm was coming through and we would be lucky to get out on Wednesday, the day we had planned to leave, so we prepared to be ready to leave and it turned out that the storm came fast and hard and then was gone, so we took off early Wednesday morning while the sun was shining. Garrett had reserved a cabin in Duschesne, close to Falcon's Ledge and it was awesome! The cabin sat on probably 1000 acres of land, with a master bedroom and another with a queen and bunk beds...perfect for our family. We loved hanging out in the loft, playing pictionary, we loved watching Wyatt and Colt giggle as they would slide down the circular staircase on blankets, the girls and I loved painting, always part of the mix is the kids playing games on dad's iphone, we also enjoyed watching football and movies and shooting guns. Colter was anxious for dad to teach him how to tie flies for fly fishing and Garrett was excited that Colt was excited to tie his own flies. Garrett got his own fly tying kit when he was about 12 and has already picked out fly tying kits for both the boys for Christmas.

Before heading up to the cabin Garrett cooked our Thanksgiving turkey in his new cooker which took him only 45 minutes and it was the best turkey we've had. I made stuffing, candied yams, rainbow jello, rolls and even packed away some pies for our own Thanksgiving feast at the cabin.

We had a memorable time walking the frozen river and sliding on the ice. We laughed at how McKenna was a little more cautious than Colt and Ashlyn about walking on the frozen river but finally did it and laughed even harder when Ashyn, who is fearless, fell through the ice with her boot crashed into the water in the river.

Friday night we drove into Vernal and ate at Pizza Hut and then drove home Saturday night. We finished two books on tape so the kids could AR on them when they got back to school. Such a great and needed trip. One thing Garrett and I did notice at night after the kids had gone to bed was how quiet it got...it seems the kids are entering a stage where there's more bugging each other and more bothering each other than we've ever had. We think it's just the ages the kids are at: we've got a diva with some control issues, a soon-to-be-diva who thinks life is a party, a tease and a pesky little brother...we laughed as we thought about each of their personalities and how a lot of the time this weekend all we said was 'please get off your sister, please don't bother him, please leave him alone, please leave her alone...just don't touch each other!!" Funny to think back on our weekend...it was great!

Adventures with Frog and Toad...

Grandma and Grandpa arranged a fun day out to a play at Kingsbury Hall. We met up with all the cousins and aunts and uncles and grandma and grandpa to watch a great play...Adventures with Frog and Toad. It was awesome and the kids loved it...the play kept their attention the whole time and then after we enjoyed Crown Burger.

McKenna had an indoor game so she couldn't make it and dad stayed home to go to her games with her. What a good sport!

First Snowfall of 2010...

We always look forward to the very first snowfall of the year. The kids can't wait to get on their snow clothes and head out into the cold...

Building Sand Castles...

I love days warm enough in November, when we can walk to the park with friends and the kids can dig in the sand...and I can capture in print an older sister getting mad at her younger brother for putting sand on her beloved sand castle and the brother taking pleasure in making older sister mad. I just love days like this...they are what memories are made of!

Pop Tarts in the Mail??!

Aunt Whitney heard about Wyatt's fat lip from biting it while at the dentist and felt so bad for him. So, she sent him his favorite food in the world...in the mail!! Who sends mail anymore?? It was so awesome for him to opened his favorite strawberry pop tarts and enjoy a super nutritious breakfast this morning, ha ha...what an awesome surprise!

Wyatt told me he wants to get the mail tomorrow, because there might be something else for him tomorrow. Uh-oh. We're in trouble!

Carrots...

This was our first year growing carrots. Colter loves garden fresh carrots and begged dad to plan some this year. So, tonight for dinner I asked Colt, Wyatt, Kobe, Trey and Owen to run outside and pick us some carrots to go with dinner...they came in with handfuls of these beautiful carrots!

Which Gender can Spot 3D Illusions Faster??

Last night Kenna finished her powerpoint science fair project that is due this week. It was a fun one to do and really pretty easy. Ashlyn's is coming up in January and she wants to do the same thing, but collect her own data and test people she's already got in mind.
Kenna guessed that girls would be able to see the 3D image in the illusion quicker than the boys and she was right on! It was fun having her friends over to test...really none of the kids got it, so she had to take it out to our neighbors and test adults who were able to see the image in just a few seconds. At the end, she put in some interesting facts she learned and one of the questions she asked was "Would 3D glasses help to see the 3D image?" Nope, they didn't help!

Cortisone Shot...

Saturday, I met with my doctor to have some x-rays taken on my right shoulder. I've had a constant dull pain for the past year and a half, but haven't wanted to go in to see what's wrong so I've just lived with the pain and gotten by just fine. Well, this last week I pulled it pretty bad and I guess with Garrett getting tired of me complaining, I promised him I would make an appointment to see the doctor.

Looking at my x-ray of my shoulder was pretty cool, all looks good, except for the calcified bursitis in the joint of my shoulder, most likely from over-use from when I was swimming every other day training for triathlons...it makes sense. He gave me two cortisone shots right into the front and back of the bursitis and it feels amazing today, just two days later...no pain and full movement. We'll hope this takes care of it, if not I'll need to schedule surgery...ouch!

Time with Grandma and Grandpa...

Wednesday night after dance, grandma Sill came to pick up Ashlyn for a sleepover. Being off track has it's perks and one of them is spending one-on-one time with grandma. Grandpa, grandma and Ashlyn played Blockus all night long. I called to say good-night and grandpa said he couldn't win against grandma and Ashlyn. Ashlyn loves playing games and has a good little mind for strategy.

Thursday she ran errands with grandma, even went to the doctors with grandma so grandma could have some warts removed...a few minutes after the doctor came in to remove the warts grandma looked at Ashlyn and said "are you alright?" Ashlyn told me she was a little queasy watching. Grandma taught her to knit and then took her to Michaels to pick out some yarn to make her own scarf...she showed it to me and wow, I'm impressed! They ate lunch at Iggy's and had a great time together. Last night when dad came home from work, he said grandpa had come into his office to talk to him and told dad how impressed he was with Ashlyn...how precious she is and how much they love her. Such a fun time for all of them!

First Cavity...

Wyatt and Colt haven't been flossing like they should...and I know mom's to blame! We ran out of flossers a few months back and I didn't replace them and then the boys got out of the habit...ouch! Today the boys had their cavities filled and for Wyatt's to be filled he was sedated. It was the funniest thing to see him so loopy. Afterward in the recovery room I was just holding him while he was coming out of the sedation and because his bottom lip was numb he kept biting it...by the time we left the dentist's office his lip was huge and swollen, but all he wanted was Chik-fil-a. It's gonna be a week before that thing heals...it's so sad!

Colt now has a silver tooth...aaagh! He says it's now his favorite tooth and shows it to everyone...it better be his favorite considering how much it cost. Between his permanent front tooth being knocked out and replaced twice and his bottom tooth being chipped off and replaced and then chipped off again and now these cavities, this boy is becoming expensive!
ok mom, enough pictures...go away so I can eat my Chik-fil-a!
