What a Good Dad!!

I have to journal about this because it's classic. Saturday morning, Halloween day, the kids wake up and Colter complained that we haven't yet carved his pumpkins. Dad says let's get our chores done and then we will carve the pumpkins. We worked around the yard and in the house and then Colter and Wyatt ran off to play with Skye, Grace and Stryder...riding scooters and just running around in the cul-de-sac and in our yards. Garrett asks Colt, in between all the playing, if he wants to come in and carve his pumpkin...nope, he's too busy playing!

A few hours pass and Colt comes in again complaining about not having carved pumpkins and asking when we can carve them. Dad say's let's do it now! Not even 2 minutes into carving out the pumpkin, Grace, Skye and Stryder come over and invited to go to the skate park for a few hours before the trunk-or-treat...Colt is off the counter quicker than we can blink and he leaves dad in his dust, carving his pumpkin. Dad continues and Wyatt watches on, not happy at all because he wasn't able to go with Stryder. What a sad little life Wyatt has and what a sad little face!! Yeah, right!

Happy Halloween...

Grandma and grandpa Sill came by Halloween morning to give the kids a little treat. Grandma brought her favorite ugly mask and everyone had to try it on...it is truly the worst thing in the world, probably because it looks so real. McKenna and I headed down to the BYU/UT women's soccer game while Garrett took the kids to the neighborhood trunk-or-treat, then dad went home to pass out candy while the boys went out with the Talbots and Ashlyn went trick-or-treating with Brinley and Breanne. In between the pouring rain they made out with way too much candy.

Cutest Ball Girls Ever...

Taylor, Hailey, Britney, McKenna and Kat were ball girls for the BYU vs Utah women's soccer game played on October 30th, Halloween night. We met up at Hires in Salt Lake for dinner with all the parents and then headed over to the game at the U. It poured buckets of rain the whole first half...but the girls didn't even seem to notice. It was a great game and they had the time of their lives. Of course, BYU won!

Monster Dash...

Bluff Ridge Elementary held their annual 5k in October rather than May. It was so much more festive and fun to have around Halloween and the weather was perfect. Lots of people ran in their Halloween costume and Ashlyn, Breanne and I ran in our stripped witch stockings. The kids had a great time. Wyatt was so excited to run and get his own medal at the end...he ran almost the whole thing (jumped in Stryder's stroller for the last 1/2 mile) and was so proud of himself! Garrett ran with the kids last year and so this was my year to run...wow, it's been a long time since I've put on those running shoes. Andreya and I ran with Wyatt and Kaden most of the way...luckily we were going at a four-year old's pace!

Colt's Birdhouse...

Many years ago, I think when we moved into our home here in Syracuse, grandpa Nichol made the kids an awesome birdhouse for the backyard. It has lasted 10 years in the rain and snow and sun, but this last summer we had to take it down and throw the house out. Colt wanted to build a new one that would fit on the post and in doing so completed his last requirement to earn his Wolf. Colt and dad had a great time working on that birdhouse all day Saturday and then he and I painted it. It looks awesome in our backyard and is big enough for lots of birds to live in. The next month at pack meeting Colt earned his Wolf! p.s. Today I helped at one of Colt's cub meetings and witnessed a few great moments. We were all getting ready to go outside for some outdoor cooking and everyone needed to wear a jacket. Colt's good friend, Seth, forgot his jacket and so the den leader got out one of her younger sons jackets that was way to small, Seth was hesitant and didn't want to wear the smaller coat...Colt was standing right by him overhearing the whole thing and jumped in and said "Seth, why don't you wear mine and I'll wear that one!" What a great thing to do. Seth was so happy and I know Colt felt good too...he looked at me and I winked at him. I love this boy!

Then a few minutes later while the boys were cooking their hamburgers a few of them got mixed up and again Seth accidentally had some seasonings put on his burger that he didn't want...Colt immediately offered Seth his burger without the seasonings. I am so proud of this kid...what a great day with my cute cub scout!

ReAL Game with LaRoca Girls...

Kelsey's dad got tickets for McKenna's soccer team to go to one of the last ReAL games of the season. The seats were incredibly close to the field, the game was awesome...a few yellow cards, the company was great, but the nachoes were out of this world!! Ashlyn and I went on a search for the infamous nachoes Michelle told us about and ended up running into Garrett's aunt and uncle and cousin, Andrea, Greg and Kayla...what a fun surprise to see them working there! We found the nachoes and loved them so much we've made them almost every week since. It was a great night with some outstanding girls!

A Halloween Surprise...

Grandma Nichol and aunt Whitney found the cutest Halloween material and grandma set out to make pillowcases for all the grand kids. What a great surprise for the kids! The girls love their pink and black zebra striped pillowcases, Wyatt loves his skulls and Colt's pirate skulls are awesome. I bet they'll leave them on all year long! Pictures coming soon...

Yay, Wyatt!

Garrett took Wyatt to his first soccer game while I was with McKenna at her game. I was sad I had to miss his debut, but then learned I hadn't missed much. He practiced with his team the half hour before but when the coach called for the game to begin he wouldn't play. The same thing happened the next week and all the parents kept telling me how great Garrett had been with Wyatt the week earlier, not pushing him, but just letting him watch and wait. I did the same thing, just waiting for him to want to play. With about 5 minutes left to play, his great coach came over to talk to him...he eventually bribed Wyatt with a hot wheels car and Carrie, Sam's mom, bribed him with lunch at Warrens with Sam...he was on board and jumped up to play. He loved it from that moment on! His little buddy, Sam, was a maniac...scoring all over the place. So fun to watch our baby playing soccer!

2nd Place Champs...

Friday afternoon, the Legacy Silverwolves played in the championship game against Syracuse Jr. High...it was a great game, but in the end Syracuse took the title of 1st place champions. We were a little sad, but a 2nd place finish for Legacy Jr. High (a school only in its second year) is amazing and the girls played awesome.

It's been an incredible experience for McKenna to be a part of such a great group of girls...she's now looking to join a club volleyball team for more training so she can be ready for next years season. She is excelling at so many things right now, just the other day in her pep club class she tried out to be part of a group that will cheer for an upcoming basketball game and made the cut...I admire so much about her, but definitely admire her confidence in trying new things...she hasn't taken dance since she was 8 and has really never tumbled or cheered, so this is fun and different for her. And, a few weeks ago she tried out for the school play...Fiddler on the Roof...and made it as part of the ensemble cast. She is definitely one well-rounded girl!

Wyatt's First Field Trip...

Wyatt's preschool took a trip to Pack's Farm to learn about pumpkins and play in the hay maze...it was so much fun to be there. His favorite part was running in the maze with two of his best buddies Lincoln and Stryder. He is loving school! So much so, that he is now going three days a week. He was only planning to go Tuesdays and Thursdays, but he met a new little friend, Lincoln, who also goes on Wednesdays and Wyatt was sad he wasn't with Lincoln at school on Wednesdays...so now he is and now Lincoln and Wyatt get together every Wednesday before school to play. It's great! In fact, it was funny last Wednesday when Lincoln came over...Ashlyn and Colt were so excited to meet him because when the kids have asked Wyatt about his new friend, Wyatt describes him as the kid with the black shoes...love it!

Picking Pumpkins...

Picking pumpkins is so easy at our house...for the past few years, grandpa Sill loads up his truck and drives around to all the grand kids giving out the huge pumpkins he's grown through out the year...the kids love it, grandpa loves it and we love it, too!!

Ashlyn's Shiner...

While playing tag in P.E., Ashlyn ran smack into her friends head at full speed. Ouch! The next morning this was the outcome...it doesn't even look real in this picture, but it was pretty sore!

Marriott vs. Strawberry Reservoir

This weekend the boys took off for Strawberry with Garrett's cousin, Brett, and so the girls and I got away, too. We are smarter than the boys and decided to stay in a hotel rather than tent it in this cold weather, but the boys seems to love the cold. I forgot my camera but Garrett took his with the boys...my girls were so bummed!

The girls and I stayed in the Marriott and even got a room with a hot tub in it...well, that's what we were thinking it would be, but when we got to our room, we were totally disappointed to find a jetted tub, smaller than ours at home, in the corner of the room...we laughed for about fifteen minutes and couldn't stop laughing all weekend as we talked about the hot tub in our room. On our way out to dinner that night we stopped by the front desk and told them we didn't need the upgraded room because we wouldn't be using the hot tub (we laughed some more as we told the front desk guy this) and he asked if we thought we were in Vegas and were expecting a full hot tub in the room...he laughed too as he watched us giggle. I guess in my own naive way, I really was expecting that! The girls and I shopped and ate and watched our newest favorite movie...Letters to Juliet...love that movie!
The boys had a great time too, the boys loved driving uncle Brett's boat and had fun catching craw dads. But the best part for Colt and Wyatt was catching fish. We had the most amazing fish tacos ever from the huge trout they brought home for us to fry...I told Garrett he could go fishing every weekend if he'll bring home fish like this for us to eat!

Octoberfest...

Colt's football team played in the Octoberfest. It was a fun day for us to be together as a family watching lots of football. His team won their first game and then moved on to the next game...and lost, but it was a close game.
Colt's had a great year and even played 3-back and was able to run the ball about 30 yards in a game last week. It was the greatest thing to see this little kid who barely weighs 54 lbs run through 4 defenders who should have taken him down and to see him come out of there and continue running until he was finally sacked...dad was so proud of him! We got Subways on the way home because everyone on the sideline joked that Colt's play was the "Subway Play of the Game"...he is such a stud!
This year he chose jersey #45 and had Colt embroidered on his jersey, rather than Sill...he was Colt 45 - just like the bullets his daddy shoots. Pretty cool!
