Saturday night was our Maplewood Ward summer party...after a full day of football, soccer and a mother and daughter brunch, we all spent the evening together at the Roy Pool. Probably one of the last days we'll spend at the pool...until next year!

A few minutes later I heard Garrett yelling to me to come outside, saying "You have got to redo the sign! That one just won't do." I asked if it had ripped or something and he just said "Nope, come and look, there's no way you can use that sign"...I looked it over and over and still didn't get when I had done wrong. He kept saying "Read what it says" over and over...finally, after spelling it out to me I got it. We laughed and laughed at what I had done...who knew a lightening bolt before the word 'hit' could cause such an uproar. One by one as we showed it to the other parents, only the guys got it right off, the girls had to have it spelled out for them...too funny. The kids still didn't get it - good thing!
The boys lined up on the field and my mouth fell open as I saw the kid Colter was up against...these farm boys were all twice the size of our little Syracuse boys. We got whooped 40-0, but it was a fun game with some great tackles by our Jr. Mites.

As I gathered snacks to take to the game, I pulled a bag of Twizzlers from the pantry. Colter asked me to save some for him for after the game. I agreed. At the game, we pulled out the licorice and began passing it around to all the kids...with about 1/4 of the bag left Colter called out from the bench to me yelling "Mom, don't eat all my licorice...save the rest for me!!" All of us on the side laughed that his head was more into the Twizzlers than on the game. I guess he is only 7!

Some of the spoils from our beautiful garden...lots of beans and tomatoes for bottling, zucchini to make delicious zucchini bread and yummy nectarines and apples to eat. I've also been busy making apricot freezer jam and will soon be bottling our peaches...I am a little worried they will be at their prime the week we are in Costa Rica. Guess I better come back rested so I can get right to work!

They had a great time throwing the football around, roasting twinkies over the fire, goofing around and pretending to be asleep so dad could take some pictures, making and shooting rockets and just being with their dad.

These next pictures tell the whole story of 'the rocket and the river'...so, McKenna made this awesome rocket to shoot off. She walked up to the launcher and gently set it up. Just then, Greg gets a great idea to tilt the launcher just a little, so rather than the rocket going straight up it shoots it outa little further. At this point in the story I stopped McKenna as she's telling me the tale and said "that's a great idea!" That's not what she wanted to hear - I didn't know there was a huge, deep river just beyond the trees.

Whew...what lucky ducks!

Wyatt just making himself comfortable on the train...
I ran into an old high school friend, Jason Neal and his dad...so good to see him after 15 years or more. It was great to introduce him to Garrett and Wyatt and see pictures of his kids and show him pictures of ours...time passes, but to talk with him was just as easy as it was in high school.

Total round trip took us about 5 hours...probably would have been about 2 1/2 if we would have just driven down to Garrett's office. I know that's not as fun for Wyatt, but when we got home I felt like I really needed another nap - it was a pretty looooong afternoon, next time we'll take some friends along to help keep me awake!

Mrs. Peterson with McKenna...Wow, 6th grade. Can this really be her last year before jr. high? Leaving the school this morning, holding Wyatt's little hand, I was a little emotional as I looked over at the kindergartners playing on the equipment...it really wasn't that long ago that Garrett and I dropped our big girl McKenna off on her first day of kindergarten. I still remember exactly what she was wearing, right down to her little flip-flops, how I did her hair and her cute little backpack that almost seemed as big as her. Sometimes I long for those carefree days...but those little glimpses help me enjoy every single day and the memories we are making now.

Ashlyn with Ms. Provost...can't believe she is already in 4th grade. She is beautiful and gets along with everyone, especially the boys! There are 22 boys in her class and only 6 girls, but I think she'll survive because her best friend, Brinley, sits right across from her...she is so excited! Ms. Provost is the best!

Colter and Ms. Bills...2nd grade in a portable is such a thrill to Colter. He had an awesome first day of school - lost a tooth, then went out to get Slurpee's right after school with Kobe...doesn't get any better than that!
Can't forget Wyatt, my little tag-along buddy...tomorrow we are riding the front runner down to daddy's office for a little lunch date at The Italian Village. Probably shouldn't have already told him our plans because he cannot stop talking about it...love this little man!
McKenna loving Wyatt one last time before heading out the door...she adores her little brothers!
