"No love, no friendship can cross the path of our destiny without leaving some mark on it forever"...Francois Mocuriac
We spent New Years Eve with a bunch of our friends at Steve and Jen's...we ate great food, played games and at midnight lit off fireworks then headed home to get some quick sleep for our New Years Day road trip. The kids spent New Years Eve up in Midway with my parents...then they kept our kids for the weekend while we took a road trip with our good friends, Greg and Amy, to see the Jazz play the Lakers in Los Angeles.
We left Thursday morning and spent the night in Vegas...not a place I love to vacation, but a great place for a night! We ate at the Claim Jumper and then walked the strip...
walking the bridge from The Excalibur, Amy and I got hit on by a group of guys. They asked where we were staying and we just starred at each other...then we said we were staying off the strip with some friends - we kept walking and somehow lost them. In the meantime, our husbands were watching all of this from the end of the bridge...and laughing.
No matter how many times I've been to Vegas, it's always pretty eye-opening at see how different and extreme people are. People you don't really think exist come to Vegas to play. Makes me grateful for the gospel (and my sheltered life).
Friday morning we drove safely to Los Angeles, thanks to G-man's incredible driving skills...hung at the hotel for a little bit, got some food, then headed to the Staples Center for the Jazz/Lakers game. A few months ago, when the Lakers played the Jazz, Garrett and I flew out for that game and that was so much fun. So this time, when Garrett got four tickets we were so excited to plan a road trip with Greg and Amy.
Our seats were awesome...Jack Black was sitting on the floor, just in front of us...he was so cool and so willing to have his picture taken with anyone who came by. One of our family's favorite movies is Nacho Libre - we just love stretchy pants!
We got to the game early so we could hang out in the arena and watch the Utah/Bama game...what an awesome game! The Jazz game wasn't so awesome, but so much fun to be in Cali with such great friends. Garrett and Greg are so similar in so many ways...they really are best of friends, and we're pretty lucky, because Amy and I are the same. Saturday, after an eventful night of giggling, we headed for home...Garrett (g-man) and Greg (g-man) were determined to eat at IN-N-OUT BURGER, somewhere along the road trip...so on the way home, we stopped in Vegas for the famous hamburgers. They were yummy!! Amy joked that we had eaten more these last three days than all of last week...definitely, but what's a road trip without lots of food?
Garrett and Greg have always been amazed at how quickly Amy and I can fall asleep, especially on road trips and this one was no exception...falling asleep quickly really is an art...and Amy and I have perfected it! We would talk, then sleep, then eat, then talk and sleep some more. Here are some pictures of the bed we put together in the back of the car...we were so spoiled! Thanks mom and dad, for taking such great care of the kids...Colter was just getting over the flu when we left and by the time we got home, it had gone through McKenna and Ashlyn...I know my mom's looking forward to sleeping in tomorrow...you definitely deserve it! Thanks for helping to make such a fun trip possible and for making memories with our kids! We love you!
