Yellowstone...

With school starting for Ashlyn and Colt on Tuesday, we decided we needed at least one camping trip as a family this summer. Colt wanted to wear all camo and was pretty bummed to realize he'd outgrown his camo pants, but everything else was camo...socks, shirt and hat. Wyatt was just happy to wear his levis...he would rather wear pants over shorts any day, even in 90 degree heat.
We drove our much loved Chevy truck for this camping trip because he decided to tent it rather than take my parent's trailer and we needed more room for all the camping stuff. We drove to the Uintahs and camped in a place not known by many...Yellowstone. Always one of the kids' favorite things to do while camping is carving sticks and making bows and arrows...the boys especially loved their new pocketknives from Camp Kiesel. I love this picture below of Wyatt asleep in the truck, but still clinging to his trusty new pocketknife.
The weather was perfect and we had a great time fly fishing, hiking, catching water snakes, sinking in quicksand mud, playing cards, taking care of a few bumps and bruises, watching dad carry all of us over different parts of the river just to find that perfect fishing spot, enjoying a yummy fish fry from the fish Garrett and the kids had caught earlier in the day...oh, and we can't ever forget how we all laughed over and over again about the moons at Yellowstone campground! Too short of a trip, but a great getaway. We left camp Saturday afternoon to be home in time for Kenna to get to McKahll's 12th birthday late-night party and to pick up Colt's football gear...a flat tire in the truck slowed us down just a bit but Garrett changed it out pretty quick.
Later that night, I was talking with Ashlyn and tenderly she said "Mom, dad can do anything...like fix a flat tire and put up a tent. I want to marry someone just like dad!" It was worth all the packing and unpacking just for that!
Looking back at these pictures makes me smile...Wyatt going to bed with a dirty face and dirty hands, McKenna after tumbling into the water, Chopper dead beat tired at camp from running free and swimming all day long..definitely roughing it and loving it!
