As a family, we had planned to get just one camping trip in this summer, and this last weekend seemed to be the golden weekend, but with McKenna's soccer tournament scheduled this past week and weekend, we couldn't make it work for all of us...so Garrett decided to just take the boys on a much needed weekend in the great outdoors. All I asked was that my boys be safe and that G take just a few pictures so us girls could see all the fun they were having on the river. He did not disappoint - so many pictures I had a hard time choosing which are my favorite.
A few weeks ago, Garrett told the kids that he had ordered them all pocket knives for when we camp...since that time, Wyatt has been so preoccupied with getting his pocket knife, asking every hour of every day when his pocket knife will finally come from daddy's buddy, Mike. The day of its arrival was much anticipated and did not disappoint! The kids loved their pocket knives. Dad did good!
Garrett packed up the truck and headed out with the boys early in the morning to make sure there was enough time to get in lots of fishing. Driving to their destination, Wyatt kept saying "my want to go camping, my want to go camping"...after quite a few times of Garrett explaining to him that they had to drive to the campground before fishing and shooting guns he finally understood.
I called Garrett a few hours into the trip to ask how it was going. Garrett mentioned that Wyatt was now naked in his carseat. Poor little guy...going through the windy canyon he had thrown up - he's just like his mom and older sister!
They set up camp, ate some lunch and then took off for the river...
The call of that river is just too strong for my guys to ignore...I'm so glad my little boys hear the same call and want so much to be with their dad and to be just like him! They fly fished and caught plenty of fish for a delicious fish fry later that night. Garrett even caught Wyatt on video catching a fish...it's the coolest thing to see my little three-year-old casting and reeling in his own fish on the end of that fly rod - what a stud!
Whether it was fishing, eating or throwing sticks into the fire, Wyatt didn't put his pocket knife down. At one point, as he cast his fishing line out, his pocket knife flew out of his hand and landed in the river. Luckily daddy fished it out...later that night it also ended up in the fire, too. Good think dad was around to save the pocket knife again. After that, Garrett kept reminding him to keep it in his pocket - just where a pocket knife belongs...yeah, like that was really going to happen! Wyatt's been dreaming of this trip and the chance to use his pocket knife, no way was it going to stay in his pocket. He was cutting and clipping everything he could get his dirty little hands on.
my cute, exhausted boys...
Garrett couldn't stop smiling and even laughing Saturday night as he told me all about his weekend with the boys. From Colter building a bench for him and Wyatt to sit on under the pine trees, to their adventures in the out house and Wyatt questioning what was down in the hole and and first being nervous about maybe falling in to eventually looking down the dark hole, to sharing gospel stories in the quiet moments together, to cutting out the fish guts, to Wyatt dancing on the picnic tables..."this is what it's all about" he said. Building boys...boys that know how to work hard and play hard!
